The Origin of Aurelle Botanica

The month I turned forty, my skin revolted.

Almost overnight, truly, out of nowhere, every skincare product I had used for years began to burn my skin. Not irritate. Not “tingle.”

Burn.

Second-degree chemical burns.

Holy cow.

So I did what any rational woman would do. I took photos. I consulted Google like it was a medical professional. I sent pictures to horrified friends. I sat in doctors’ offices and dermatology chairs, waiting for answers that felt just out of reach.

The consensus was simple, and not at all helpful:

“Use natural products.”

The problem?

There weren’t any.

Not really.

So for days, the only thing that touched my skin was aloe vera. Straight from the plant. My mother’s sweet little aloe, which had quietly lived on her windowsill for years, was suddenly called into active duty.

She never fully recovered.

Days turned into months of research. I studied the products I had once trusted, then the ingredients inside them, then the ingredients inside those ingredients.

I thought I was solving a temporary problem.

Fifteen years later, I was still learning.

But along the way, what started as necessity became curiosity. Then curiosity became craft.

I began making my own formulations: moisturizers, makeup removers, toners, lip oils, balms, body butters, even whipped tallow. If it can be used on skin, I’ve made it, tested it, and refined it.

And slowly, something unexpected happened.

What began as survival became ritual.

What began as fear became something…beautiful.

Over time, skincare stopped feeling like something I had to do.

It became one of the quietest, most restorative parts of my day.

Soft.

Intentional.

Grounding.

Decadent, even.
